Rashid Khan Creates History: Becomes First Bowler to Claim 650 T20 Wickets!

Afghanistan’s superstar leg-spinner Rashid Khan has added another big achievement to his name by becoming the first bowler ever to take 650 wickets in T20 cricket. He reached this historic milestone during the opening game of The Hundred 2025, playing for Oval Invincibles against London Spirit at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Tuesday, August 5.

London Spirit, led by Kane Williamson, won the toss and chose to bat first. However, their innings got off to a rough start as Jordan Clark and Jason Behrendorff picked up early wickets, reducing them to 26/3.

That’s when Rashid Khan stepped in and showed his class. The 26-year-old first removed Wayne Madsen with the 43rd ball of the innings. But the special moment came when he trapped Liam Dawson LBW, making him the first ever to take 650 wickets in T20s. He didn’t stop there, he also got rid of Ryan Higgins, finishing with fantastic bowling figures of 3 wickets for just 11 runs in 20 balls. Out of those, 15 were dot balls, showing just how hard he was to score off.

With that performance, Rashid now sits at the very top of the all-time wicket-takers list in T20 cricket, with 651 wickets from 478 innings. His bowling average stands at 18.54, with a strike rate of 16.9 balls per wicket, and an economy rate of just 6.57 runs per over. He’s also taken four five-wicket hauls in his T20 career.

Rashid got great support from teammate Sam Curran, who also took 3 wickets. London Spirit never recovered and were bowled out for 80 runs in 94 balls. Ashton Turner was their top scorer with 21 runs from 14 balls.

In reply, the Invincibles had a steady start with Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye adding 34 runs. Both openers got starts but were dismissed by Dawson. Sam Curran chipped in with a quick 14 off 9 balls, before skipper Sam Billings and Donovan Ferreira comfortably guided their team to victory with six wickets in hand and 31 balls remaining.

What’s Next?

London Spirit will be in action again on Saturday, August 9, when they face Welsh Fire in Cardiff. Oval Invincibles will also play on the same day, taking on the Manchester Originals.
