The next PPV offering is to shake up the on-bat state in the UFC 205-pound division. The upcoming PPV title rematch at UFC 320: Ankalaev vs. Pereira 2, T-Mobile Arena, LV, happens soon. Ahead of which, Carlos Ulberg proved himself as the almost absolute top contender to challenge for the gold. Carlos Ulberg faced UFC 205lber Dominick Reyes in the UFC Fight Night 260 (AKA UFC Perth) headliner on Saturday.
After a nine-fight winning streak, Ulberg sits #3 on the athletes’ listings, with just UFC 320 PPV title challenger Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev ahead of him. Ulberg is the obvious frontrunner for the light-heavyweight gold.
The main event in Las Vegas next week will feature Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, and he is looking forward to watching it, as he is planning to fly there next week. During his post-fight mic time promo at UFC Perth, Ulberg just doused an “I’m coming” to the duo ahead.
A DWCS (Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 4, Week 8) alum, ‘Black Jag’ slumped his opening trip to the octagon but is now on 9 wins straight; the clear title contender cub also defeated Jan Blachowicz in May via decision. Ulberg had a cancelled bout against former prodigal champ Jamahal Hill and two against Reyes in 2024 (UFC on ESPN 54); this time, he made it count.

The light-heavyweight duo hashed out early noon, this weekend at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia. He and Reyes dampened the opening frame with measured shots. Ulberg’s first significant strike of the night came about two minutes into R1, followed by a precise 1-2 combination. Moreover, a surefire right jab that hit it down the pipe and floored Reyes. With just 33 seconds left in the first round, the TKO stoppage occurred.

In the aftermath of his admirable performance and lamentable loss to Jon Jones, Reyes’ career was in a precarious downfall and on the tough end of a four-fight skid. ‘Devastator’ and his stylistic, explosive surge were further marred by a two-year hiatus and DVT (Deep vein thrombosis).
He had made a strong comeback, defeating three opponents in the first round and solidifying his position as a top contender in the light-heavyweight division. The first of which started with a first-round TKO at UFC on ESPN 57. Dominick Reyes has also trained with Pereira’s camp before, and it could have easily been him working the dynamic and moving on to UFC 320.
But Ulberg made the most of it and even won a post-fight POTN bonus for the Aussie affair – by the way of knockout (punches) – Round 1, 4:27 mark.
Dominick Reyes once billed he had the pedigree to make it to top; Jon Jones is here to disagree

Despite his loss to the man from Down Under, Carlos Ulberg aside, Reyes has had quite a run so far. Ulberg might be riding high and would be ring-side at UFC 320, but Devastator has had his pockets of victory. Matter of fact, after the Perth main event, fan forums jibed online that “How bad is Jones?” instead of How good is Carlos Ulberg with this win?
Joe Stevenson’s Cobra Kai Team fighter Reyes is infamous for (almost) sending the GOAT to the shadow realm and running him down the length at UFC 247: Jones vs. Reyes. It is, as of yet, considered one of Jones’ most stylistically tough challenges and fans and even Reyes himself have often poked him on it.
Then ranked #11 in the divisional rankings, Ulberg was to face Hill at the International Fight Week PPV card. Meanwhile, Reyes was yet to end his 0-4 losing roll. During UFC on ESPN 57 Media Day, Reyes iterated the examples of the stout Hill, Poatan, Jiří Procházka, and others to say how the division was “very performance-based” and all have gone through both wins and losses.
The 35-year-old light heavyweight considered he had the mettle to do it as well and proved it as much; during the lead-up, during fight week, many would praise him and diss Jones regarding their age-old clash. Jones would fire back and it led to some online contention between the two.
What a claim to fame, almost beat John Jones. Got full of myself and literally couldn’t win another fight. 😩 pic.twitter.com/rDENqskxHj

😬Dominick Reyes went OFF on Jon Jones for retiring without fighting Tom Aspinall:
— Home of Fight (@Home_of_Fight) July 31, 2025
"He just strings everyone along and lies and tells this and says that. He's not being genuine, man… That’s why everybody mad about it, he’s just trying to play with all of us…

Bones would even disregard his near-win as a ‘has-been’ and would mock Reyes for “not winning since”. While fans would correct him that he rebounded 3-0, Bones was nonchalant. Today, after UFC Fight Night 260, Jones made it a point to poke the bear again.

UFC 320 also has Procházka vs Khalil Rountree Jr., both recent title challengers and with wins over former champ Hill, on the PPV main card. So that’s another fight scooping out the next possible name in the top contention after Ulberg.
No.7-ranked on the list until another weekly update, all isn’t lost for Dominick Reyes. There’s been a change in guard and much of the top order has had losses before that. Reyes might soon again find himself in a possible title eliminator, with a win or two.
