Tim David Hobart Hurricanes contract BBL 2025

Tim David Commits to Hobart Hurricanes Until BBL 2025, Strengthening Title Defence

Tim David Signs New Hobart Hurricanes Contract Until End of BBL 2025

Star Australian batter Tim David has re-signed with the Hobart Hurricanes in a major boost to the club’s ambitions of going back-to-back in the Big Bash League (BBL). The new contract extension keeps David in purple until the end of BBL 2025 (BBL|16), ending weeks of speculation around his future.

The 28-year-old was a key figure in Hobart’s historic BBL|14 championship win, and after receiving strong interest from rival clubs, including both Melbourne sides, David has chosen loyalty and continuity by staying in Tasmania.

“I’m super excited to re-sign with the Hurricanes for another two seasons. Last year was special, and I can’t wait to do it all again,” David said.

The “Surge Goliath” Returns

David’s destructive lower-order batting was one of the defining factors of Hobart’s title run last season. Batting predominantly at No. 6 or 7, he delivered several clutch performances during Power Surges—earning the nickname Surge Goliath.

In BBL|14, David scored 254 runs at an average of 42.33 and a strike rate of 177.62, including 114 runs during Power Surges at a stunning strike rate of 285. His fearless hitting helped guide the Hurricanes through close chases against the Strikers, Thunder, and Renegades, key moments in the club’s run to their first BBL trophy.

A Career on the Rise

Born in Singapore and raised in Perth, Tim David’s journey to the top has been anything but conventional. After a slow start with the Perth Scorchers, David found his rhythm with the Hobart Hurricanes, debuting in BBL|10 and immediately making an impact with a 58-run knock against the Sixers.

Since then, David has compiled 1,217 BBL runs at a strike rate nearing 160, making him one of the most consistent and dangerous finishers in the league. He has also represented Australia in 40 T20Is, scoring 643 runs at 26.79, and continues to be a regular name in the national setup.

Beams: “Tim is a Game-Changer”

Cricket Tasmania’s GM of High Performance, Salliann Beams, described the signing as crucial for the franchise’s future.

“Tim has been instrumental in what we’re building in Hobart. His leadership, power-hitting, and fielding ability make him a rare T20 talent. We’re thrilled to keep him on our side.”

The Hurricanes will kick off BBL|15 on December 16 with a blockbuster rematch of the BBL|14 final against the Sydney Thunder at Ninja Stadium. With a well-settled squad and renewed belief, they aim to become the first team since the Scorchers to defend a BBL title.
